On the afternoon of September 23 during the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival (SRIFF), the premiere of Kazakhstan's film The Choice of History was held in the Jackie Chan Cinema of Intime Department Store at Qujiang New District, Xi’an China.
Yan Chaoying, Deputy Director-general of the Shaanxi Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, Song Guanyong, Deputy Director of the Film Division of the Shaanxi Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, Wu Yilun, Director of the Xi’an Administration of Culture, Broadcasting, Television, Press, and Publication, Yang Jing, Deputy Director of the Radio, Film and Television Management Division, Wang Shengyan, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee of Qujiang New District, and Song Xiaolin, Deputy General Manager of Qujiang Cultural Industry Group attended the premiere.
Hartzblahtof Andrea, Director of the Kazakh Culture Research Institute of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan, Abdrakhmanov Kairat, Counselor of Education, Science and Culture, Kazakhstan’s Embassy in China, Han Wanchu, Deputy Director of Kazakhstan International Integration Foundation Xi’an Representative Office, Li Qian, Deputy Director of Kazakhstan International Integration Foundation Xi’an Representative Office, and Ms. Agnese Fontana, President of the Italian Documentary Association were also invited to attend the premiere as special guests.
The Choice of History is a biographical film about Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev, the first president of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and is the sequel of The Road of The Leader. It is directed by celebrated Russian director Sergei Snezhkin, who has ever directed several famous films like Bury Me Behind the Baseboard and Flower of Aztec Marigold. The Choice of History was shot from the perspective of the British writer Jeremy Wilson who has ever met Nazarbayev and written a personal biography about him. The film not only allows the writer to travel across the time and space, but also puts him on the scenes mentioned on each page of the book to experience that period of history, witnessing some milestone-like historical events, including the establishment of new countries after the collapse of the Soviet Union such as the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the end of the premiere, The Choice of History was released in Jackie Chan Cinema (Qujiang) in China for the first time. The film biography drew the audience back to the magnificent history of the 1990s.
Along with The Choice of History, films like Japan’s Our Little Sister, Kyrgyzstan’s Heavenly Nomadic, Turkey’s Sarmasik, and India’s Masaan were those reflecting Asian perspective participating in the screening unit of the film festival, together with which sub-units including Gazing Eastern Europe and Lost in Love for the Mediterranean Sea constituted the Roaming All Over The World series of the screening unit, and which was an integral part of the film screening unit.
