The 3rd SRIFF to kick off on September 19 in Xi’an

    On August 1, the 50-day Countdown Launching Ceremony for the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival (SRIFF) & Press Conference took place at Xi’an Concert Hall.

    Themed on “Film in Development, Culture with Diversity”

    This event was attended by more than 500 persons, including leaders like Liang Gui, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and head of the Propaganda Department of CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, Qian Yuangang, director-general of Shaanxi Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film, and Television, Wu Jian, a member of the Standing Committee of CPC Xi’an Municipal Committee and head of the Propaganda Department of CPC Xi’an Municipal Committee, Li Jing, vice mayor of Xi’an City, Yan Chaoying, deputy inspector of Shaanxi Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film, and Television, Hui Yingji, vice secretary-general of Xi'an Municipal People's Government, Hui Yi, deputy head of the Propaganda Department of CPC Xi’an Municipal Committee and controller of Xi’an Radio & TV Grand Theater, Ma Rui, deputy head of the Propaganda Department of CPC Xi’an Municipal Committee, Wu Yilun, director-general of Xi’an Administration of Culture, Broadcasting, Television, Press, and Publication, Li Yuan, secretary of the Party Working Committee of Qujiang New District, and Chen Jili, director of Xi'an Qujiang New District Administration Committee, etc., advisors for the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival like Wen Juan, famous director and filmmaker from Hong Kong, and San Mu, publisher of the Movie View magazine, all staffs of the Secretariat of the Executive Committee of the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival, and relevant media journalists and enterprise representatives, etc.

    It is learned that the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival is jointly sponsored by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television of the People’s Public of China, the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province, and the People’s Government of Fujian Province, and jointly organized by Film Bureau subordinate to the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television of the People’s Public of China, Shaanxi Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film, and Television, and the Xi'an Municipal People's Government, and it is set to take place in Qujiang New District of Xi’an City during September 19-23 this year.

    Focusing on the theme “Film in Development, Culture with Diversity”, this film festival will give more attention to the movies and cultures of the countries along the “Belt & Road”, in an effort to realize the cultural and people-to-people exchange between countries along the “Belt & Road”, and actively build a golden platform for development of China movie and television industry.

    The Silk Road International Film Festival is another international film festival of China after the Beijing International Film Festival and Shanghai International Film Festival, and by now it has turned into a wind vane for the Asia movie industry, and a movie platform for Chinese audiences to keep abreast of the world movie tendency and have zero-distance contact with international superstars. The film festival is positioned as an international, comprehensive, innovative, and open-end large-scale movie theme activity, and an important platform for Chinese movie industry to go global and join the international communication, cooperation, and trading.

    Build an important platform for the movie & TV industry and the industrial exchange at home and abroad

    At the launching ceremony, Qian Yuangang, director-general of Shaanxi Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film, and Television, said: “We will bring together domestic and overseas filmmakers, experts, and institutions to discuss on the plan of cooperation together, so as to turn the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival into a vital platform for the movie & TV industry and the industrial exchange at home and abroad.”

    Li Jing, vice mayor of Xi’an City, pointed out that we should fully tap the profound cultural deposits of those countries along the silk road, and turn this Silk Road International Film Festival into a cultural feast with elegant style, striking characteristics, and a wide range of public participation.

    Wu Yilun, director-general of Xi’an Administration of Culture, Broadcasting, Television, Press, and Publication, gave an account of this film festival’s overall situation, such as opening/closing ceremony host place, structure of the judging panel, articles of association for awarding, and award setting, etc.

    Chen Jili, secretary-general of the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival (Xi'an) Executive Committee and director of the Xi'an Qujiang New District Administration Committee, gave a brief introduction about the progress of the film festival preparation, and pointed out that this film festival would cooperate with domestic and overseas professional institutions at high starting point and high standard, in an effort to turn the Silk Road International Film Festival into a new platform for domestic and overseas movie markets and a feast for the movie culture.

    Source said that this film festival will take place according to the guiding idea “Internationalized, Professionalized, and Characteristic”, and it consists of seven events like Opening Ceremony, Film Competition, Film Screening, Film Forum, Film Market, the Belt and Road” Cultural Show, and Closing/Award Ceremony.

    To be precise, the opening ceremony will take place in Xi’an Radio & TV Grand Theater on September 19, and it will invite leaders at provincial and municipal levels, domestic and overseas famous directors, playwrights, producers, crews, and stars. In the film show unit, domestic and overseas excellent films will be broadcasted in theater circuits, communities, and higher education schools, etc.; in the film forum unit there are diverse forums like international movie development philosophy, artistic and technical exchange, VR technical forum, and movie and Silk Road, etc. In the movie market unit, activities like exhibition, promotion, trading, and communication will be held. In the culture exhibition unit, cultural and theatrical performances will be carried out in a citywide range. On September 23, the closing ceremony will take place in Daming Palace National Heritage Park. At that time, domestic and overseas guests like famous directors, stars, and filmmakers will be invited to attend the closing ceremony, famous stars will walk on the red carpet, various types of prizes will be awarded on site, and theatrical performances will be held, etc.
